SERIES DESCRIPTION
Since the very beginning, not only has God has been true to His word but He’s been faithful in His character. Because we know that God is good, we can live life with integrity. When Jesus lived on earth, He lived a perfect life that we were unable to live. Through His Spirit, we can become people of integrity. Who we are in private should match who we are in public. When we trust in God, we can be truthful in whatever we say and do.

Week One (October 4)
Rise Up
Today’s Bible Story: Rise Up (Daniel’s Integrity) • Daniel 1

Today’s Key Question: How do you want people to describe you?

Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.
Key Question: How do you want people to describe you? For preteens who are just becoming aware of how they relate to people around them, it’s important for them to understand how their actions impact others. We hope this question will lead to a discussion about how being a person of integrity can lead to how others relate to us.
We kick off this series in Daniel 1. When Daniel and his friends were capture by Babylonia officials, no one would have known or possibly even cared if they continued following God’s laws in captivity. However, in their hearts, they knew what was right. They decided to stay true to their faith, and God rewarded them for it.
Bottom Line: Be truthful with your whole life. Integrity means doing what is right, even when no one is looking. When we’re truthful with our whole life, we’re not just honest with our words. We also make sure our actions in front of people or by ourselves match the life God wants us to live.

Week Two (October 11)
Say Anything

Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.
Key Question: What do you talk to God about? As kids grow up, it’s important to help them understand what it means to talk to God in prayer. Prayer is more than asking God for what we want. God wants to hear what’s on our hearts and minds. We can confess what we’ve done wrong. We can ask our questions. We be honest with how we’re really feeling about life. We pray that preteens will start to see God in a whole new way.
In week two, we head to 1 John 1:9. John writes, But God is faithful and fair. If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure, (NIrV). You don’t have to keep secrets from God. God loves you and is ready to forgive you.
Bottom Line: Being truthful with God keeps you close to Him. While we often think of this in terms of confession and forgiveness, we can also be truthful with God with our feelings and questions. God doesn’t look down on us because of our doubts and confusion, even our mistakes. God created us, loves us, and wants to hear from us. God is ready to forgive and we can trust God no matter what.

Week Three (October 18)
A Matter of Trust

Basic Truth: I need to make the wise choice.
Key Question: Why is important for people to trust you? Our words and actions have consequences, including whether or not people are able to trust us. Kids might not quite yet understand why this is important. We hope that through this question, kids will discover how integrity and trust are connected. We pray they’ll become trustworthy with their own words and actions.
In week three, we head to 2 Kings 5 where we find the prophet Elisha and his servant named Gehazi. Gehazi seized the chance to use dishonest to take advantage of Naaman’s gratitude and get riches for himself. He went behind Elisha’s back, denied his actions, and inevitably lost Elisha’s trust.
Bottom Line: When you’re not truthful, you lose trust. Being truthful is not just about the lie you tell and the consequence you might receive. When you don’t have integrity, people will start to see that you’re not really who you say you are.

Week Four (October 25)
Always on My Mind

Basic Truth: I need to make the wise choice.
Key Question: What do you tend to focus on? As preteens are growing up, they become more self-aware. We hope this question will prompt them to discover some things about themselves and how they might trust God to help them live with integrity. We pray they’ll figure out a plan to focus on what’s true.
We finish up the month in Philippians 4:8. Paul reminds the church, Finally, my brothers and sisters, always think about what is true. Think about what is noble, right and pure. Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect. If anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those kinds of things, (NIrV). If we want to have integrity with our entire lives, we have to fill our minds with good things in the first place.
Bottom Line: Focus on what’s true. Being a person of integrity takes work. We hope that this week kids will discover how they can fill their minds with what is true and good and worth thinking about. Filling our minds with what’s true, can helps us live our lives with honesty and integrity.
